Oscar McLaren

Oscar has also been heavily involved in the firm’s social justice work, including the firm’s successful 2015 High Court challenge to a patent over the BRCA1 breast and ovarian cancer gene and the firm’s class action on behalf of children falsely imprisoned by the New South Wales Police Force. Oscar has also provided advice to and acted for Greenpeace Australia Pacific.

In 2018 Oscar was appointed Managing Director of Claims Funding Europe and Claims Funding International based in Dublin, Ireland. Those companies fund securities, cartel and public interest class actions in a number of jurisdictions including The Netherlands, South Africa, Germany, Italy, Japan and Canada. Since returning to Australia, Oscar has continued to provide advice to both companies.

Oscar holds a Bachelor of Arts and Honours in Law. Before joining Maurice Blackburn, Oscar worked for five years as a journalist at the ABC on programs including Four Corners, Lateline, Background Briefing and the radio current affairs programs AM, PM and The World Today.
