Matthew Wicks

Matthew is a pragmatic lawyer who takes pride in achieving strong outcomes for his clients. Coming from a background in commercial litigation and criminal law, Matthew is a skilled negotiator who will fight hard for his clients against stubborn opposition, whilst closely considering the risks and realities of the claim. 

Matthew became a lawyer because he wanted to help people.

“As a lawyer, people generally come to you when times are tough, often when their life is at a low point and they aren’t sure what the future holds for them. There is no greater feeling than being able to take someone from that low point to a place where they can see hope for the future and access the treatment and compensation that allows them to live a full and meaningful life again. That’s what gets me out of bed every morning.”

Outside of his work as a lawyer, Matthew is heavily involved in local cricket in Mackay. He is the captain of the Brothers Cricket Club A Grade team and is also the director of senior cricket of the Mackay Cricket Association.

Matthew has previously played cricket in New South Wales and England. This gave him the opportunity to also experience the law in those jurisdictions. He brings his competitive nature, strategic thinking and analytical skills acquired from his cricket experience to his Maurice Blackburn office every day.
