"I am motivated by the capacity of class actions to disrupt the power imbalance between everyday individuals and powerful defendants.
"I was lucky to work on the Grand Western Lodge Class Action for people who were allegedly assaulted, falsely imprisoned or suffered financial loss while they were residents of a licensed boarding house. This resulted in more than $4 million in compensation for 50 people with disabilities and exemplifies what the class actions regime was designed to achieve."
Lorraine is currently working on the CIMIC Group (formerly Leighton Holdings) Class Action. This class action is in relation to allegations about corrupt payments made by an Australian subsidiary company to secure construction work in Iraq. Lorraine also continues to work on Social Justice Practice matters.
While completing her Juris Doctor, Lorraine won the Judicial Conference of Australia Scholarship for Social Justice and was the Vice-President (Social Justice) of Sydney University Law Society. Lorraine is a member of the NSW Women’s Network, the NSW Cultural Diversity Committee and Australian Lawyers for Human Rights. Prior to law, Lorraine had a background in the NGO sector and volunteering with grassroots organisations.
