Kimi Nishimura

Kimi is a Principal Lawyer in Maurice Blackburn’s Class Action Division and an Executive Director of Maurice Blackburn Board of Directors. Kimi has close to 20 years of experience as a specialist class action litigator and is the Maurice Blackburn Principal acting in some of the nation’s largest and most complex class actions at present, including the Holden Transmission Class Action, the Apple App Store Class Action, the Google Play Store Class Action and the Foreign Exchange Cartel Class Action.  Kimi previously acted in the Kilmore and Murrindindi Bushfire Class Actions which delivered in excess of $700 million combined to survivors of the Black Saturday bushfires.

Kimi brings her class action litigation experience and specialist financial, accounting and data analysis skills to bear in her role as an Executive Director of Maurice Blackburn. In addition to holding an Honours degree in Law and an Arts degree, Kimi holds an MBA from Melbourne Business School (Dean’s List, 2016) and has completed board member training courses (Australian Institute of Company Directors - 2011, 2012 and 2024).

The Holden Transmission Class Action is being brought on behalf of people who acquired certain Holden vehicles equipped with transmission systems that the class action alleges are defective.

The Apple App Store Class Action is being brought on behalf of app developers who sold their apps and in-app content via the App Store and Apple payment solutions, as well as eligible Australian iPhone and iPad users who purchased iOS apps and in-app digital content from iOS apps.

The Google Play Store Class Action is being brought on behalf of app developers who sold their apps and in-app content via the Australian Play Store, as well as eligible users of Android smartphones and tablets who purchased Android apps distributed via the Australian Play Store and/or in-app digital content in Android apps distributed via the Australian Play Store

The Foreign Exchange Cartel Class Action is being brought in relation to alleged price-fixing in the foreign exchange market. In this case, Kimi acts on behalf of a broad cross-section of Australian businesses that trade internationally and some of the country’s major investment funds that have been exposed to, and damaged by, the alleged price-fixing behaviour.

Kimi has a strong history of running cases that hold powerful organisations to account for mass wrongdoing, and played a pivotal role in resolving the $500million Kilmore Black Saturday class action for thousands of Victorian bushfire victims.

Whether through her work on class actions or her work in helping stop the Muckaty nuclear waste dump in the Northern Territory, Kimi has spent her professional career taking a stand against all manner of corporate misconduct.

In addition to holding an honours degree in law and an Arts degree from the University of Melbourne, Kimi holds an MBA from the Melbourne Business School.  As such, she brings specialist financial, economic and data analytical skills to her role as a specialist class action litigator and to her role as an Executive Director of Maurice Blackburn.
