Kerry Palmer

Kerry Palmer is a class actions Special Counsel in Maurice Blackburn’s Sydney office.

Practice Area

Class actions

Qualification(s)

JD (Hons), GDLP, BBus

Since joining Maurice Blackburn, Kerry's work has included being a core member of the legal teams on the Grand Western Lodge Class Action and the Radio Rentals Class Action and a member of the trial team for the DePuy Hips Class Action. Kerry has also managed the NT Youth Justice Class Action and settlement administration since the case commenced in late 2016.

After a career spanning corporate banking, management consulting, community service and overseas aid work, Kerry’s belief in social justice led her to study law. It was this commitment that also led her to join Maurice Blackburn as a graduate lawyer and continue as a lawyer after her admission as a solicitor in 2013.

“I am passionate about justice, especially for society’s more vulnerable members,” says Kerry.

“I see law as an excellent way to work for social justice, as summed up by Ovid: 'Laws were made that the stronger might not in all things have his way’".

Kerry brings a wide-ranging body of professional experience and an extensive legal education to her class actions role. She holds First Class Honours in her Juris Doctor legal studies at the University of NSW and First Class Honours in a University of Melbourne Law School Masters Course on Class Actions. She also holds a Bachelor of Business with a double major in Finance and Accounting from the University of Technology Sydney as well as post-graduate qualifications in Business and Legal Practice.

“Class actions are an incredibly important legal and social mechanism, because they make a way for justice where there otherwise would be none. Very few people are in a position to enforce their legal rights against a major corporation or government. Not only do we bring justice in the cases we fight, but we act as a deterrent against the abuse of power by others.”

Before joining the firm, Kerry completed her practical legal training at the Public Interest Advocacy Centre, and for the Homeless Persons’ Legal Service. She also worked as an intern with the Australian Human Rights Centre, and with the Kingsford Legal Centre.
