Jessica has worked at Maurice Blackburn for more than a decade. She has worked on numerous matters across Australia, including the Volkswagen, Audi, and Skoda diesel emissions class actions and the Woolworths shareholder class action.
Jessica graduated from the University of Newcastle with a Bachelor of Laws, a Bachelor of Communications, and a Diploma in Legal Practice. Before joining Maurice Blackburn in April 2014, Jessica practiced commercial law, focusing on litigation and dispute resolution.
Her decision to join Maurice Blackburn was motivated by a desire to expand the reach and impact of her work and help more people.
"Class actions help people to enforce their rights in circumstances where individual legal action is often simply not feasible," says Jessica.
"They can unite people with common issues and highlight individual injustices that amount to mass wrongs. We are fortunate in Australia to have quite a number of good quality and well-intentioned statutory protections, but having and enforcing those rights are two very different things. When there is an imbalance of power and resources, rights and protections, whether under contract, statute or common law, can feel meaningless to an individual. Class actions give a voice to people who would otherwise stay silent, and being a representative for that voice is incredibly rewarding."
