James Goddard

Senior Associate
James Goddard

James Goddard is a Senior Associate at Maurice Blackburn’s Maroochydore office. He helps people with their workers’ compensationroad accident injury and public liability claims.

James is a formidable negotiator and litigator with notable legal experience. He was drawn to the law by the opportunities it presents to work on diverse cases and to represent and assist many different people. After graduating from Griffith University with Bachelor degrees in Law and Psychological Science, James joined the firm as trainee lawyer in 2010 and as a lawyer in 2011. His superior legal work and client skills have seen him progress quickly, and he was made an Associate in 2014.

“The thing that drives me to succeed at my work is obtaining justice and positive outcomes for my clients and their families. These people have suffered – through no fault of their own – and it’s our role as a firm and me personally to do our best to help them. My work is rewarding because it helps people to get back where they should have been in life,” says James.

Queensland born and bred, James is passionate about obtaining fair legal remedies for the people across the South East Queensland region. Having previously worked in Maurice Blackburn's Rockhampton and Ipswich offices, he has been involved in a number of cases that have had positive results for Central and Southern Queenslanders and their families.

James has a particular interest in bringing claims for the survivors of childhood sexual abuse. He is specially trained in trauma informed practice, and combined with his psychological science degree, this training ensures he works with clients to access justice in a way that recognises the complex trauma they have suffered. “I’m inspired by the way so many of my clients are incredibly stoic in tough circumstances. They truly appreciate the help we provide.”

In addition to James’ legal work, he also holds mediation skills training through a course run in conjunction with Griffith University and the Department of Justice and Attorney-General.
