Alison Barrett

A Gold Coast local, Alison holds a Bachelor of Arts with a major in psychology, and Honours in Law. Alison joined the firm while she was still completing her studies, and was admitted as a solicitor in 2006.

Alison ensures her clients receive all the support they need – from the firm, other professionals and insurers – to achieve the best outcome as quickly as possible. A highly experienced litigator and an effective negotiator, Alison is able to assess and pursue the best path of action for each individual client and will use all available resources to obtain a favourable result.

Alison’s record as a lawyer as well as a leader is exemplary. The QLS lauded Alison’s thorough understanding of her specialised area of law, presenting her with the award for the Highest Achiever in the State when she completed its strenuous specialist accreditation program. Alison was also a finalist for the QLS Agnes McWhinney Award in 2019.

At Maurice Blackburn, Alison quickly progressed through the ranks to Principal in 2014. She currently oversees numerous offices, supervises our Complex Litigation team and is part of the North Injuries Leadership Team. Alison was also integral in establishing our Northern Territory practice.

But it was helping people, not awards and accolades, that drove Alison to become a lawyer. She is passionate about ensuring everyone has access to justice and good quality legal representation, and she joined Maurice Blackburn because of this interest in social justice.

“I continue to find the most rewarding part of my work is being able to assist clients in their time of need and being able to work with them to achieve results that make a genuine difference to their lives and often that of their families,” says Alison.

“I believe in actively upholding the firm’s principles and I don’t shy away from a difficult case. I am willing to have a fight until the end to make sure my clients get the best result possible – and one that they deserve.”

Alison has had notable success invoking change and action from insurers on behalf of clients. She is also keen to enable others to better access the law, and used her extensive knowledge to co-author a chapter of the Caxton Legal Centre’s Queensland Law Handbook. She is also an expert in the National Injury Insurance Scheme (NIIS) in Queensland.
