What is a TAC claim?

When someone is injured on the road in Victoria, they can make a claim with the Transport Accident Commission, or the TAC, for compensation.

When Victorian drivers pay to register their vehicle, a portion of those funds are insurance premiums which allow the TAC to pay compensation and treatment costs to people who are injured in transport accidents.

What is the process for making a TAC claim?

Regardless of the severity of your accident or injury, you should lodge a TAC claim. A TAC lawyer can advise you on and guide you through the process of claiming for compensation, but generally it involves:

  1. Reporting the accident to the police (if you haven't already done this, we can submit the report for you)
  2. Filling out and submitting a TAC claim form
  3. Providing a medical certificate with your claim if required, which should be completed by your own doctor if possible

We can show you how to navigate your way through a road injury claim, or make a TAC claim on your behalf. Contact our expert TAC lawyers for more information on how to make a TAC compensation claim.
