Thank you for your enquiry.
It can be difficult to successfully claim Total and Permanent Disability or Income Protection benefits while you are working. Usually, in order to make a claim through your insurance, you need to have stopped work due to illness or injury.
If you are having trouble continuing to work due to your illness or injury, or if you stop work in the future, please let us know on 1800 196 050 as you may still be able to make a claim.
Superannuation insurance cover
While you’re working, it’s important that you consider your current insurance coverage and make sure that you have insurance benefits through your super fund, so that you may be eligible to claim if you become unable to work in the future.
This might include continuing to remain a member of any of your superannuation accounts that already have cover and making sure that your employer contributions continue to be paid.
Please note that obtaining or increasing your insurance cover can carry many issues, particularly if on the date you seek to obtain or change your insurance cover you:
- are absent from work due to illness or injury;
- have reduced hours or have restricted duties due to illness or injury; or
- are in receipt of compensation payments (such as WorkCover, Centrelink Sickness Benefits / Disability Support Pension)
If you are unsure about your insurance entitlements, please contact us and we can investigate your current insurance cover and discuss how it can affect you.
Based on your answers, while we do not think you have a super insurance claim at this time, it is worthwhile looking into whether you can access compensation through your work, road or public liability insurance provider.
