Am I part of the Neds/Ladbrokes Class Action class action?

You are a Group Member in the Neds/Ladbrokes Class Action if you made one or more in-play bets on a sporting event using the Neds or Ladbrokes Fast Code service between 4 March 2019 and 4 March 2025, and you lost more money than you won.

An in-play bet is one made after the beginning of a sporting event. The class action does not include bets placed on racing (horse, harness or greyhound) events.

Do I need to register to be part of the class action?

By registering you will receive updates about the case, and we will tell you if and when you need to do anything to claim compensation. You need to register to get these updates, but you don’t need to register to be a Group Member. If you meet the description above you are already part of the class action.

What is the Neds/Ladbrokes class action about?

The case is about in-play bets (also known as live bets) made on sporting events using the Neds or Ladbrokes Fast Code service. The Fast Code service is part of the in-play betting product offered by Neds and Ladbrokes. A code (e.g. ‘GE4J’) is shown to the customer once they make a bet selection on the app or website. The customer then calls Neds or Ladbrokes and the code is recited to a Neds or Ladbrokes staff member as part of placing the bet.

Betting on a sporting event after the event commences is prohibited in Australia. There is an exception to this if the bet is made wholly by telephone. We allege that Entain’s use of the Fast Code service is illegal because key information about the bet is communicated otherwise than by telephone.

Court and legal claims

The class action is being conducted in the Supreme Court of Victoria.

It alleges that Entain’s Fast Code service, provided through the Neds and Ladbrokes brands, is illegal under the Interactive Gambling Act 2001 (Cth), and that by providing the illegal Fast Code service:

  • Entain engaged in misleading or deceptive conduct under the Australian Consumer Law;
  • Entain contract with customers was illegal; and
  • customers are entitled to a refund of their losses.

At this stage, it is not possible to predict how long the Class Action will take to be resolved. Class Actions usually take between 2 – 4 years to be resolved, although this is dependent on many factors during the legal process, including how the defendant responds to the case and how hard they fight it.

An in-play bet is one made after the beginning of a sporting event. In-play bets are also referred to as “live bets”. The class action does not include bets placed on racing (horse, harness or greyhound) events.

The Fast Code service operates by the customer selecting a bet on a live event (e.g. a certain team to win) on the Neds or Ladbrokes app or website. The app or website then displays a code (e.g. GE4J). The customer phones Neds or Ladbrokes and recites the code to place the bet.

This class action is only for in-play bets made through Neds and Ladbrokes. The class action does not seek compensation for bets made with other companies.

Maurice Blackburn are conducting another class action in relation to in-play bets made with Sportsbet.

If you made at least one in-play bet using the Neds or Ladbrokes Fast Code between 28 February 2019 and 28 February 2025 but are unsure if you lost money overall, we still encourage you to register your interest.

During the legal process Maurice Blackburn may be able to confirm which registrants made losses through the company’s records.

The Neds/Ladbrokes Class Action alleges that customers who placed a losing in-play bet using the Fast Code service are entitled to a refund of their losses, being bet sakes minus any wins or other returns.

The class action does not seek compensation for other losses a person may have suffered because of in-play betting or gambling with Neds or Ladbrokes more generally.

If you believe you have a claim for additional compensation because of your individual circumstances, you will have to pursue this claim independently of the Class Action.
