We are excited to announce a powerful collaboration with the Thoracic Society of Australia and New Zealand (TSANZ) to advance research in occupational lung disease (OLD). This partnership is a significant move forward in our joint goal to promote respiratory health and support those affected by occupationally caused lung disease.
Our partnership with TSANZ is based on a long-standing relationship that stems from our shared commitment to addressing the challenges posed by OLD. Previously, we have collaborated on prior iterations of the Maurice Blackburn Grant-in-Aid for Occupational Lung Disease, which made substantial contributions to research in this field over almost a decade.
Occupational lung diseases, including the increasingly prevalent silicosis and the continuation of the presence of mesothelioma, pose significant harm to workers from many industries. As awareness of these conditions grows, we must intensify our efforts to understand and mitigate their prevalence and impact. Through our partnership with TSANZ, we are dedicated to supporting research projects that aim to enhance diagnosis, treatment, and prevention strategies for OLD.
Our Asbestos, Silica and Occupational Diseases team sees the devastating cost of dust diseases daily. Conditions like silicosis have no current cure and have very limited treatment options available.

Our investment in the TSANZ Research Awards program will support vital research initiatives, driving innovation and progress in respiratory health. By funding research projects and supporting advocacy efforts, we aim to make a meaningful difference in the lives of individuals affected by OLD and contribute to broader efforts to safeguard lung health in the workplace.
The TSANZ Award Management program ensures that resources are efficiently and transparently allocated to deserving research projects. From compliance with regulations to expert review by the TSANZ Research Subcommittee, rigorous processes are in place to uphold the integrity of the awards and ensure that impactful research receives the support it needs.
We are excited about the potential of this partnership to drive positive change in respiratory health research and advocacy. Together with TSANZ, we are committed to advancing knowledge, raising awareness, and continuing to advocate for policies that prioritise lung health and safety in the workplace.
We look forward to seeing the impact of our partnership with TSANZ as we work together towards a healthier future for Australian workers.
